Why Did You Vote Democrat? Pick A Reason

When your friends can't explain why they voted for Democrats, give them this list. They can then pick a reason .

10. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

9. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

8. I voted Democrat because Freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

7. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

5. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies through abortion so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

4. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.

3. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the democrats see fit.

2. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

1. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my ass that it is unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

Letters to and from Teachers and Governor Christie

An Open Letter to Teachers from Chris Christie (Christie-Guadagno 2009 Facebook)

Christie Supports NJ Teachers

I am the proud product of our state’s public education system. In fact, my late mother was a dues-paying member of the NJEA. I know firsthand that one of the main reasons many of our schools rank among the best in America is because of our dedicated teachers and educational professionals who work hard every day to give our children the learning experience they deserve.

Like you, I am fully committed to supporting New Jersey’s kids, teachers and parents to make sure our children receive a first-class education so they can pursue limitless opportunities once they graduate. Our state’s teachers are charged with one of the greatest responsibilities one can have, and they deliver each and every day for our kids.

But lately, there has been some misinformation circulated falsely, by supporters of Governor Corzine, suggesting I would attempt to diminish or take away teachers’ pensions and benefits. Let me be clear - nothing could be further from the truth. The claim that any harm would come to your pension should I be elected Governor is absolutely untrue. It is a 100% lie. Your pension will be protected when I am elected Governor.

Right now, the Trenton-based leaders of the teachers' union are literally spending millions of dollars of your union dues to falsely attack me on television and through slick mailers. This is nothing but an attempt to poison me in your eyes so that you will vote for four more years of Jon Corzine and his failed policies. Just so I am clear, what they are saying about my intentions to hurt pensions or lay off teachers is absolutely, 100% untrue.

Here are the facts:

* I will be a strong ally for teachers in the classroom. When elected, I will make education funding a top priority and I believe we must ensure those dollars reach our children and the classroom. In these tough economic times, we must ensure that the proper resources get to you, the teachers in the classroom. Despite what is said by my opponents, I would accept federal education stimulus dollars to help fund our children's educations. Education is a priority and this money is critical to ensuring we are able to continue giving our children the education they deserve. We must also make sure that education dollars are always a priority and come from stable sources. Too often these grants or stimulus dollars are accepted for programs with no plan on how to pay for them after the money runs dry. It is time for a new era of responsibility in Trenton, and I will work to secure a steady source of funding for all education programs.

* I will protect your pensions. Nothing about your pension is going to change when I am governor. In fact, in order to ensure your retirement savings are safe, I believe we must prioritize the protection of pension fund dollars and investigate the cause of Jon Corzine's large investment losses to our pension system. Currently, there is a $34 billion deficit in the State's pension fund, which threatens the retirement and lifeline of so many teachers. We must do better for our teachers, future teachers and retirees. As governor, I will work to close unfunded liabilities and make sure our state lives up to its promises, unlike Jon Corzine. I will not raid your pension fund to cover budgetary shortfalls like previous governors of both parties have done. One of the changes I will bring to Trenton is responsible management, investment, and oversight of state pension dollars.

* I will not end collective bargaining and will safeguard protections for ALL public employees, including teachers. Collective bargaining is an important safeguard for public employees and is a part of a long American tradition of self-government. We must make sure that the voice of every worker is represented in contract negotiations. I will demand open, honest and fair deliberations.

It’s true that times are tough. But the truth is that Jon Corzine has handed the NJEA and every student a ticking time bomb in this year's budget. He has funded the new school aid formula with $1 billion in one-shot revenue that will disappear next year. Every school budget and academic, athletic and extra-curricular program for our kids is at risk because of the Governor’s reckless, short-sighted policy. Governor Corzine has refused to make the tough decisions required to make sure we make education funding a priority and to avoid the ticking time bomb.

We may disagree on some issues, but I know we agree on what’s most important – delivering the best education we can for our kids. Giving New Jersey's children a quality education is critical to their future and I know we wouldn't be able to do that without the dedication and tireless commitment of teachers like you. I appreciate you allowing me to clear up some of the misinformation being circulated about my plans to support our state's teachers.

Thank you for your service, and best wishes on a great school year.
A Teacher's Open Letter To Governor Christie (nj.com 3/28/10)
By lhteach
March 28, 2010, 11:21PM

Dear Governor Christie,

I am aware that you will most likely not personally read this letter, as I am sure you have plenty of well paid staff to handle that arduous task for you. That, however, will not stop me from voicing my opinion. Your hypocrisy is despicable. As you ask the working to middle class teachers of this state to “tighten our belts” I also wonder why you have not done the same. Why do you fly around on a chopper paid for by OUR taxpayers’ money? Why do you work for the highest possible salary allowed for your position? Why doesn’t your new budget call for a pay freeze for you and your cohorts? Why don’t you contribute towards your health benefits? Well, I have the answer. You are a pompous, egotistical, callous fascist who lied his way into office. You think the public is too far below you to catch on to your shrewd, scapegoat tactics. You would also love to demolish public education in favor of charter schools. You would love to broaden the gap between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots.’ You are a divisive, disrespectful, classless bully.

Using teachers and children as pawns for your own political gain is the lowest of the low and, in my opinion, abusive. I do understand that public education means nothing to you and that you have no faith in the hard work that goes on in public schools. If you did, you wouldn’t be paying for your own children to attend private schools. Oh, how lovely it must be to rape the entire public school system and not have to worry about it ever affecting your family. How simple- minded you are to attempt to pit the public against the most selfless, caring, and hardworking professionals our state has to offer. I love children and I believe in their futures. You love yourself and believe in ignorance. You are in fact banking on the public’s ignorance in order to benefit your personal agendas.

You must have very little faith in your own abilities as governor if you must resort to lying to the public about teachers. I do recognize your distraction techniques. I have seen them before. As a teacher, I often encounter such shoddy attempts at clouding the issue at hand when children make excuses for not having their homework done. Well, Chris Christie, the teachers did not eat your homework. Why don’t you just tell the public the truth? It is not the teachers who have bankrupted the state. Years of reckless spending and borrowing (from our pensions, might I add) and short- sighted politicians such as yourself, have single handedly robbed this state blind. There is no hidden money in our profession. We DON’T DOUBLE DIP. We don’t get PAID OVERTIME. We don’t FLY TO WORK ON HELICOPTERS. We do NOT EARN WITHIN THE TOP ONE PERCENT. Keep stealing from the future of New Jersey’s youth and you will see that ignorance is far more costly than the debt that we already know.

In a recent televised speech, you stated that you did not want to be known as the governor who didn’t make a difference. Well, you are certainly making quick work out of alienating the entire state. And, if it all goes as you have planned, you will certainly hold a legacy. You personally will have ruined the lives and futures of our children. Your legacy will be that of the evil governor who stole opportunity from the most fragile members of our society. You will be the man responsible for failing test scores and neglected students. Hopefully, after you are done with New Jersey, there will be enough money left in education to purchase the new Social Studies books that will highlight your strong-armed fascist politics. You and Mussolini can share a chapter. Children can read and learn about rotten, tactless, hateful politicians with personal agendas and no redeeming qualities.

What you don’t seem to recognize, Chris Christie, is that most intelligent people understand the value of an excellent education. The public knows how well we teachers in this state do our jobs. They support us. You underestimate New Jersey, and the people who live here, when you spew such misguided and ignorant hatred towards teachers. You only make yourself look worse. Teaching is at the CENTER OF EVERYTHING. The public knows how well our schools run. That is why people live here, in New Jersey, you silly man. That is why your attempts at vilifying us teachers will never work.

I invite you, Chris Christie, to come into my classroom. Do my job as well as I do. Scramble to put together interactive and differentiated lessons for every single period of the day. Follow Individualized Education Plans for special needs students in a mainstream setting as seamlessly as I do. Come to my Intervention and Referral Services meetings. Attend Back to School Night. Tell a crying student they will survive the TAUNTS OF A BULLY. You tell the children why some of their favorite teachers are no longer employed. Explain why there will not be an afterschool math club. Tell these children that their education is PRICELESS and that THEY COUNT. Reach into your pocket to buy supplies the district cannot afford. Reach every student and change their lives. Become a teacher.

Oh….wait. That would mean foregoing your helicopter rides, generous salary, and lobster dinners. And those private school tuitions for your children would have to go, as well. Thank goodness you can afford that privilege, so that your children don’t have to slum it with the rest of us common folk in the public sector. How nice it must be to sit at the top, with all of you minions who are too afraid of you to speak out against you. Enjoy your reign while it lasts, and best of luck getting re-elected.
